Fat Tail International SDN BHD officially began in 2026, almost by luck. There was no grand plan at the beginning to build a company around African Fat-Tailed Geckos. The journey simply developed naturally, one opportunity leading to another, until we realised that the hobby we had enjoyed for years had become something much bigger.
Today, we, Fat Tail International SDN BHD focuses on exporting African Fat-Tailed Geckos while continuing to stay connected with the local Malaysian market. Turning our personal passion into a business has introduced a completely different side of the hobby, from understanding international demand and building relationships to learning how to present our animals and our brand to a wider audience.
The experience has been both exciting and challenging. A hobby allows you to focus mainly on the animals you love, but running a business requires a broader perspective. It means thinking about quality, consistency, customer relationships, responsible animal care and the long-term direction of the company.
Looking back, we find it fascinating how something that started during the MCO in 2020 eventually became a business in 2026. Sometimes, the best opportunities come when you follow a passion without knowing exactly where it will lead, no matter the ups and downs.
One of the most exciting parts of our journey has been setting up booths at reptile exhibitions, expos, bazaars and other events. These experiences have allowed us to introduce African Fat-Tailed Geckos to new audiences, meet fellow enthusiasts and discover different perspectives within the industry.

Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects has been getting to know other breeders and businesses in the reptile scene, including those we consider our competitors.
We have come to realise that the reptile community is much more than a marketplace. Behind every booth is someone with a different story, years of experience, individual breeding goals and a unique approach to the hobby. Meeting these people has made our journey more adventurous and rewarding.
Although we may compete for customers and business opportunities, there is still plenty to learn from one another. Every conversation can offer a new perspective, whether it involves genetics, breeding practices, customer preferences or the development of the reptile market.
For us, meeting other breeders has become one of the most memorable aspects of participating in events. These encounters have helped us understand the industry better, appreciate the effort required to build a reptile business and recognise the importance of relationships within the community.
They have also reminded us that building a brand takes more than having attractive animals. It requires consistency, trust, knowledge and the willingness to keep learning.
Looking Beyond Malaysia: Our Focus on Exports

As FTI Group Malaysia develops, international exports have become our main business focus. We see opportunities to introduce African Fat-Tailed Geckos to enthusiasts and customers beyond Malaysia while building relationships with people who share our appreciation for the species.
Exporting is an exciting part of our journey because it allows a passion that began locally to reach a wider audience. It also brings additional responsibilities, including understanding destination-country import requirements, complying with applicable wildlife and animal-health regulations, and arranging appropriate documentation and transport.
For us, international growth is not simply about reaching more customers. It is about developing a reliable business that takes animal welfare and responsible practices seriously.
At the same time, focusing on exports does not mean turning our backs on the Malaysian market. Our roots are here, and the local community remains an important part of our story.
Supporting Malaysia's Next Generation of Fat-Tail Gecko Enthusiasts

One thing we do not want to overlook is the growing interest among younger generations of Malaysian reptile enthusiasts.
There are young hobbyists who genuinely love African Fat-Tailed Geckos, want to understand their genetics and are eager to learn more about breeding and husbandry. Many are at the beginning of their journey, just as our own interest began in 2020.
We believe this local enthusiasm deserves recognition and encouragement. Not everyone who loves geckos needs to become a commercial breeder, and not every hobby needs to develop into a business. Sometimes, the joy comes simply from learning about the animals, caring for them properly and connecting with others who share the same interest.
As FTI Group Malaysia grows internationally, we still want to remain connected to this community. Sharing knowledge, encouraging responsible keeping and supporting the development of the local hobby are meaningful ways for us to contribute.
Malaysia's reptile community has room for hobbyists, collectors, breeders and businesses to grow alongside one another. By encouraging newcomers to learn about genetics, animal welfare and proper husbandry, we hope to help build a stronger foundation for the future of African Fat-Tailed Geckos in Malaysia.
A Journey That Continues to Grow

From a personal interest that began in 2020 to the establishment of FTI Group Malaysia in 2026, our journey has been full of unexpected opportunities, new friendships, valuable lessons and exciting adventures.
What began as a hobby has developed into a business focused on exports, participation in reptile events and connections with enthusiasts across different markets. Along the way, we have discovered that the people, experiences and lessons behind the hobby are just as important as the animals themselves.
We are excited to see where this journey leads next. There is still so much for us to learn about morph genetics, breeding, international markets and the reptile community. Whether we are meeting customers overseas, setting up at another expo or connecting with young enthusiasts here in Malaysia, the passion that started it all remains at the heart of what we do.
